Reiki pronounced Ray-Key is a Japanese form of energy healing (Reiki means Life force energy guided by Universal Wisdom), which anyone can learn. It is very simple to use and beneficial for all. Everyone has the ability to use and channel Reiki, but only people who have been attuned can use this ability.
The channelling of ki energy, used to facilitate the healing process when the body is out of balance as a result of physical, mental or emotional conditions. It can complement conventional healing, for a variety of injuries and ailments for people, pets and livestock alike.
Reiki is completely safe and can be offered without fear of side effects or overdose. The patient’s system automatically draws Reiki through the practitioner, taking only as much as required, and using the energy in whatever way is best at the time. This may calm thoughts and emotions or help the body to self heal.
Reiki works with the electro-magnetic energy field of the body, and does not involve manipulation or massage. A treatment will usually provide gentle touch, which can be a comfort in itself. However, touch is not essential, and areas such as wounds can be treated as effectively with non-contact. Even patients who are frail or suffering from extensive body damage can benefit from Reiki. The energy is usually experienced as nurturing and relaxing, wounds may heal faster and pain may be eased.
The Reiki energy works through all materials, including such things as casts and incubators, making it a highly adaptable therapy. In practice this also means that a patient has no need to remove any clothing, maintaining the dignity of the body privacy is often appreciated, particularly if a patient has undergone frequent investigative or invasive procedures. Reiki will flow to where it is needed in the body so in cases where it is impractical to reach all of the patient, considerable benefit can be obtained from simply holding hands or feet.
